Using Apple Configurator for iOS
Apple Configurator can be used from an iPhone or iPad to add a Mac, an iPhone or an iPad to your Apple Business or School Manager. This process will require to scan a code with your iPhone or iPad during the initial setup of your Apple device.
Preparing your admin iPhone or iPad
To use that procedure you need to install Apple Configurator on one of your iOS device. This can be done using Bravas or simply going to the App Store with a personal Apple Account.
Your device will serve as a trusted element for Apple to communicate with both your Apple Business or School Manager and the device to add. Your Apple Configurator device will be left untouched.
When launching Configurator for iOS you will be requested to log-in, be sure to use a Managed Apple Account with device admin permission on your Apple Business or School Manager tenant.
Then, prepare your process by going to the settings of the app and ensure that:
- you will share a WiFi access with the target device
- and that Bravas is the assigned MDM server
Processing your devices
Both iOS and macOS devices need to be at initial configuration stage for this procedure.
If you Mac, iPhone or iPad are already activated, you need to erase all content and settings before continuing:
Once your target device is at the welcome screen, be sure to have your Configurator device near by, Bluetooth and WiFi on, and ready to scan in Configurator.
Then, on the target iPhone or iPad, pass the setup assistant screen up to the WiFi selection stage. Do not select a WiFi and do not go further. If you go past the WiFi selection, you need to restart the device.
And for macOS, stop at the Country or Region pane. And same, if you go past that stage, you need to restart the Mac.
Once on the WiFi screen with iOS, or the Country or Region pane on macOS, bring your Configurator device close by, and scan the image that appear on your target device.
Once done, you can turn off the target device and you need to connect to the Bravas admin console, in the Configure tab, Apple section, to force a synchronization of your device list. This synchronization is done every hour usually, you need to do it manually if you do not want to wait.
Once your target device is shown as free to use on Bravas device list, you can distribute it to your users.
